Feeling the agony of loss of those closest to her yet aware of the abounding love of those that remain, she must make the choice to hang on or let go. Forman won the 2009 NAIBA Book of the Year Awards and is a 2010 Indie Choice Honor Award winner for If I Stay. The film adaptation of “If I Stay”, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, was released in the United States on August 22, 2014. The sequel to “If I Stay”, titled “Where She Went”, was released in 2011. Told from Adam’s point of view, the novel is about Adam and Mia’s relationship after the accident.
On a day that started like no other…
Mia had everything: a loving family, a gorgeous, adoring boyfriend, and a bright future full of music and full of choices. Then, in an instant, almost all of that is taken from her. Caught between life and death, between a happy past and an unknowable future, Mia spends one critical day contemplating the one decision she has left—the most important decision she’ll ever make.
Simultaneously tragic and hopeful, this is a romantic, riveting and ultimately uplifting story about memory, music, living, dying, loving.
If I Stay is one of the most eye-opening books I’ve read in quite a while. It really does focus on what life is really about, why we are all here, what we live for. Mia is an average girl with an average life. She plays cello, she loves Adam and she lives happy. And then everything changes in a instant. Mia then has to decide whether she stays with Adam, lives and loves, or leaves with her family and leave a life she can never live again. This book is seriously one of the most amazing books I’ve read and I say this about a lot of books but it really is! the one thing that really did let me down though was the way the book was set out. I found that it felt like a week that Mia was in hospital due to the flashbacks slowing down the pace of the book. It sort of slowed the day down and dragged it out making it seem like a week. Apart from this I really did enjoy the book. My favorite character has got to be Adam. He just has that cool, rock star kind of edge to him which I found made him really interesting. I also love how sweet he was and everything he did for Mia. E.g. spending all his money buying the tickets to the show that Mia wanted to see. SO CUTE! This book is just one of those books that makes you sob and think ‘I gotta live my life to the full’.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves romance and young adult novels 🙂
