Today’s post is going to be review of the upcoming debut poetry collection by Sam Payne ‘This Boy is a Rainbow”.
Sam Payne is an LGBT Instagram Poet from Cambridge, UK. ‘This Boy is a Rainbow’ will be released January 1st, 2018! I was contacted by Sam and given a copy of the book in exchanged for an honest review. So here are my thoughts….
The best way to describe this collection is a LGBT+ version of Milk and Honey, So if you love Rupi Kaur you will loveeeeee this collection. Also it is TIME for more diverse poetry to be out there and up there with the greats.
The book is split into three categories..
- the storm
- the sun
- the rainbow
I thoroughly enjoyed each section but I found that I wasn’t able to resonate with the book as much as I would’ve hoped. I feel this is mainly due to me being in a different place in my life than I was when I read milk & honey. I did however find a few poems which I am absolutely obsessed with and as I have Sam’s permission I will leave them down below.
My favourite section of the book was ‘the rainbow’ and I felt upon re-reading in the past week (I wanted to see how my interpretation has changed since my first reading) I found that I was able to resonate with it more than I did the first time.
I honestly and truly cannot recommend this book enough. It is sooooo nice to see / experience diverse poetry in the book community and I am so proud to be able to read and review it and fully support it.
