Heyyyyyyyyyyy I’m back!!!

From now onwards I am going to post twice a week in order to keep to a schedule and be able to post more frequently alongside my university work! I am planning on choosing certain days to post but for now I’m not sure which days it will be.

Anyways….so this is pretty weird to review as I usually only review narrative books however I recently read the collection of poems by Rupi Kaur in the poetry book ‘Milk and Honey’ and I just couldn’t not review it and share with you some of my favourite poems from the collection. I may also be doing a few more poetry book reviews as I’ve recently read and found poems from some pretty epic poets.

About the Author

Rupi Kaur is a writer and artist based in Toronto, Canada. With a focus in poetry, she released her first book of prose and poems in November 2014. Throughout her poetry, photography, illustrations, and creative direction she engages with themes of femininity, love, loss, trauma, and healing. The Blurb

My Review

OKAY….. so I know there is a lot of controversy around this book as there are some (me included) who absolutely LOVE the book and some who do like it but don’t however understand the ‘hype’ around it. All I will say is that you may like the book you may not, it honestly depends on you as a person and how you interpret Kaur’s work.

*Trigger Warning: the book does contain extreme themes e.g rape and abuse*.

The book is split into four chapters… The Hurting, The Loving, The Breaking and The Healing. I found myself personally drawn more to ‘The Hurting’ and ‘The Breaking’ but thoroughly enjoyed every single chapter. Kaur’s poetry is accompanied by sketches which correspond to the image created through the poem and its message which was really cool. I loved how the poems we also split into the chapters so that each chapter carried a theme and message throughout.

As there are too many poems I like in this book to share on one post I will simply list the page numbers and the chapter they come from. However, if you do want to read more of these you can check out my Bookstagram as I have posted a few pictures of poems from this book.

As you can see I related most to the breaking and the healing poems. PLEASE give this book a go!!! If you are on the fence about buying and reading it your best bet is to google image search the book as some poems from it do come up so you can read a few which may help you decide if to buy it or not.
